This article describes the main topic covered by the essays in this edition of the “Academy of Management Journal.” The author had recently attended an annual meeting of the academy and had participated in a preconference professional development workshop organized by Diana Day and J. Peter Murmann. The workshop featured experts speaking about qualitative research. The event was so well attended that the crowd overflowed outside the conference room. Interest in the topic was so great and space was so limited that this issue consists of essays covering qualitative research in management and organizations.
