Abstract Electronic maw parameters of the lowest conduction band in Bi 2 Te 3 are determined from Shubnikov‐de Haas investigations in stationary magnetic fields up to B = 10.5 T induction. The electron concentrations ranged from about 2 × 10 17 to 2 × 10 19 cm −3 . In contradiction to earlier reported results the cyclotron masses of the six‐valley ellipsoidal energy surfaces depend on the Fermi energy at various doping levels of the samples, though the ellipsoidal shape of the Fermi surfaces (with invariable ratio of the main axis) remains unchanged. The extrapolated band edge cyclotron mass for B parallel to the trigonal axis is 0.06m 0 ± 5%, the density of states mass for one single valley at the conduction band edge amounts to 0.082m 0 ± 10%, which corresponds to an integral density of states mass of 0.27m 0 ± 10% at the band edge.
