The oxygen isotope exchange reaction between water and calcium carbonate has been studied over the temperature range 190°C to 750°C. Equilibrium constants for the reaction have been measured and fit the equation: lnK=2725T−2for all temperatures above 0°C. The implications to geological thermometry are discussed.
