Bone Marrow Infarctions in a Case of Aleukemic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Abstract. A case of acute lymphocytic leukemia in an elderly woman is reported. The clinical picture was dominated by extremely severe bone pain and pancytopenia. Clinically there was no splenomegaly or peripheral lymphadenopathy. Repeated sternal marrow aspirations proved unsuccessful, obviously due to a marked increase in bone marrow reticulin. At autopsy characteristic leukemic infiltrates were seen in bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen and liver. In addition very widespread bone marrow infarctions were found.
