This paper describes an Internet based system for studying the design of algorithms and the structure of mathematical proofs. The Algorithm Design System consists of a framework for the construction and maintenance of the learning environment by a distributed group of contributors, and a set of web pages, produced by the contributors, that form the learning environment used by students of algorithm analysis and design. The framework of the system that we describe allows for the material used by students to grow dynamically in a distributed environment and provides constraints to ensure the uniformity of form and quality of content of the end product. The paper discusses both the architecture of the system and the content of the pages that it produces.
