Evaluation of Subcutaneous Calcium Heparin Therapy in the Treatment of Thrombo‐embolic Disease

Forty-three patients were treated with calcium heparin by subcutaneous injection, and the anticoagulant response was carefully evaluated by serial clotting time determinations in 32 cases. An adequate anticoagulant effect could be obtained in the majority of patients with two injections per day, and in the remainder by either one or three injections per day. The drug was well tolerated, the only side effect being a mild allergic reaction at the site of injection in six patients. Treatment with subcutaneous calcium heparin injections appears to be safe and effective and should prove useful in the treatment of thrombo-embolic disorders.
