Two models of pay satisfaction were tested and compared in this study. The basic proposition of Lawler's model was found to explain only a moderate amount of pay satisfaction. A better way to operationalize Lawler's definition of pay satisfaction was discussed. Dyer and Theriault add pay administration variables to Lawler's model. A partial test of this model found that it accounted for significantly more variance than Lawler's model.
