The unmarried will be an increasing proportion of the aged retired population in the future. Longitudinal data were used to investigate factors associated with evaluations of work, retirement, and well-being of 1,398 never-married, widowed, and divorced/separated men and women. Factors associated with evaluations tended to be similar across the three marital statuses. Formerly married women, however, especially seem to warrant the attention of practitioners who plan pre-retirement programs.
