Pieter Willemsz van Elbinck is the same man who, under the pseudonym Peter Williamson Floris, travelled to the East Indies on the British ship, The Globe, from 1611 to 1615. For an account of this voyage, see Moreland Citation1934. Moreland (Citation1934: xli) concludes that as Pieter Willemsz, he had probably 'come to the East on one of the various fleets which sailed from different ports in Holland before the establishment of the United Dutch Company in 1602'. For descriptions of these manuscripts see van Ronkel Citation1896 and Ricklefs and Voorhoeve Citation1977. Cf. an initial letter from Queen Elizabeth I to the Sultan of Aceh referred to by Purchas (1905: 410-2). Ali Citation1989: 1672–3. I am well advanced in transliterating, translating and studying this MS.
