Strategy Markers in Writing1

Strategy markers have been studied by several authors in oral production. In this paper we attempt a similar task using written production. We present results obtained from the analysis of the written product of adult EFL learners in the science domain. The ‘strategy markers’ are first identified and listed, then they are analysed to interpret the linguistic difficulty and the strategy used. Finally, a comparison is made between the ‘strategy markers’ used in oral communication, and those found in writing.
