It is suggested that during growth on oxalate, the oxalate, possibly in the form ofoxalyl-coenzyme A, is reduced to glyoxylate, which is taken to be the precursor of glycine and phosphoglycerate. The phosphoglycerate formed then enters established routes of biosynthesis.
