Challenges and Opportunities in Higher Education in India

India’s higher education system is one of the largest in the world and plays a vital role in the country’s socio-economic development by preparing a skilled workforce and promoting research and innovation. Over the past few decades, the sector has expanded rapidly due to the growing demand for higher education, economic liberalization, and the growth of private educational institutions (Agarwal, 2009). While this expansion has increased enrollment levels and educational opportunities, it has also revealed several structural challenges such as disparities in access, uneven quality of education, outdated curricula, and insufficient funding (Altbach, 2015).
