Background: Skin issues like acne, pigmentation, dullness, and early aging are becoming more prevalent due to unhealthy lifestyle choices, stress, environmental toxins, and inadequate nutrition. Ayurveda outlines various external treatments for achieving healthy skin, among which Mukha Lepa is notably prevalent. This treatment involves applying a herbal paste to the face to enhance skin health and appearance. Objective: This review intends to investigate the Ayurvedic principle of Mukha Lepa and evaluate its potential significance in addressing various skin ailments from both traditional and scientific viewpoints. Materials and Methods: Information on Mukha Lepa was gathered from classical Ayurvedic literature, including Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya, and other pertinent texts. Research papers and contemporary dermatological studies were also examined to comprehend its therapeutic uses and potential mechanisms of action. Discussion: Mukha Lepa may enhance skin health through several pathways, including the local uptake of herbal ingredients, improved blood flow, antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory effects, and defense against microbial proliferation. These functions may aid in managing acne, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and other prevalent skin issues. Conclusion: Mukha Lepa is a straightforward, affordable, and non-invasive Ayurvedic treatment that could support skin health upkeep and the treatment of skin disorders. More scientific investigations are required to confirm its efficacy and establish standardized therapeutic protocols.
