LG2 completed Phase II archaeological investigations at six historic and four prehistoric sites on Eglin Air Force Base (AFB). The investigations were designed to evaluate the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility of the sites. Based on the investigations, the sites were recommended not eligible for listing in the NRHP. However, the investigations have added to the understanding of settlement and lifeways of the Weeden Island period. For example, Phase II testing suggests that 8OK1733 and 8OK1734 may be related. Specifically, 8OK1733 may well be an activity area associated with 8OK1734. The current assessment verified that Weeden Island sites are located immediately adjacent to creeks and streams. Further investigations at Weeden Island sites on Eglin AFB may produce intact deposits or features that may further our understanding of settlement, intra and intersite patterns.
