It is the purpose of this paper to determine the influence of a number of factors on the professional income of high-level manpower. This information will allow a better determination of income differentials due to excess market demand and income differentials due to other factors. Such information should be of great interest to those concerned with empirical studies of occupational adjustment and to those interested in the theory of occupational choice. This analysis will consider the factors that are associated with the annual income in 1964 of individuals who received their Ph.D.s between 1957 and 1959.
