Abstract

This deposit contains two related texts by the author: • a revised Russian author’s version (2026);• an extended and revised English version (2026). The study examines the emergence of the encomienda system in 1503 and the adoption of the Laws of Burgos in 1512 in the context of the internal political struggle of the Spanish Crown (the House of Trastámara) against the House of Columbus, as well as the rivalry between the Dominican and Franciscan Orders in the New World. The present version corrects the chronology of events, expands the analysis of the political conflict between the House of Trastámara and the House of Columbus, and substantially revises the role of religious orders in the formulation of the Laws of Burgos. This deposit is based on the following original publication: Ashrafyan, K. E. (2021). Ot enkomʹendy Nikolasa Ovando do Burgosskikh zakonov (1503–1512 gg.)
