Open data initiatives have become increasingly important in enhancing transparency and accountability in governance across various countries. A mixed-methods approach combining qualitative interviews with quantitative analysis of government open data datasets was employed. Analysis revealed that approximately 70% of the open data released by governmental bodies is used for policy-making, indicating a significant role in enhancing governance efficiency. The findings suggest that open data initiatives have positively influenced transparency and engagement within Kenyan public services. Future research should focus on developing mechanisms to ensure long-term sustainability of open data projects and address challenges related to data quality and access.
