Abstract

A simple Monte Carlo procedure for simulating the scattering of electron beams with incident energies in the range 5-40 kev has been developed, based on a screened Rutherford cross section and the Bethe continuous energy-loss equation. Despite the approximate nature of the initial scattering data, the calculations agree well with the available experimental data for the lighter elements. Agreement is not so good for the heavy elements, but it is still possible to obtain a qualitative picture of electron scattering in these elements.
