Key Points

  • The aim is to establish a comprehensive framework for a research programme focused on crime-prevention strategies and their effectiveness.
  • Defines concepts and relations across six interrelated papers on crime prevention.
  • Specifies dimensions for crime-process and prevention-mechanism profiles.
  • Establishes governance rules for the interrelation of independently citable papers and a cumulative monograph.
  • Creates a clear architecture for analyzing and addressing prevention fit and misalignment.
  • Outlines specific dimensions for profiles, ensuring comprehensive analysis of crime prevention mechanisms.
  • Establishes a program-level governance structure that addresses jurisdiction-specific needs.

Abstract

The Prevention Fit Programme Constitution establishes the common analytical, terminological, notational, methodological, and governance architecture for a cumulative six-paper research programme on crime-prevention fit and misalignment. It defines the authority relation among the programme’s concepts, papers, monograph, applications, and later journal adaptations. It freezes the canonical sequence from Crime-Process Profile and Prevention-Mechanism Profile to claim-relative prevention fit, structured prevention misalignment, bounded prevention portfolios, prospective residual analysis, and process-sensitive post-intervention evaluation. The Constitution specifies exactly ten Crime-Process Profile dimensions, exactly fourteen Prevention-Mechanism Profile dimensions, eight paired fit and primary misalignment dimensions, the canonical object chain, authority declarations, independence safeguards, claim ceilings, residual-mechanism distinctions, validation domains, amendment procedures, version propagation, correctability, and programme-level stopping conditions. It also assigns exclusive concept ownership and principal handoffs to Papers 1–6 and regulates the relation between the independently citable papers and the cumulative monograph. The programme is jurisdiction-general and context-general, but not context-free. Its analytical architecture is shared, while its empirical content must be reconstructed for the declared jurisdiction, institutional order, population, organisation, setting, and period. The Constitution is not a seventh substantive paper. It is the governing methodological and constitutional authority for the complete Prevention Fit Programme.
