A set of morphological and biological parameters of the common roach, which may have an adaptive nature to long-term radiation exposure, were studied in the most radionuclide-contaminated water bodies of the Chornobyl exclusion zone. In the gradient of the absorbed dose rate of 4.7-22.3 Gy/h registered during the period of investigations, a decrease in the average diameter of the eggs, low parameters of the gonadosomatic index and fatness, reduction of fin rays, as well as the occurrence of deformations and neoplasms of the gonads were determined in fish of the cooling pond of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Lake Glyboke compared to control individuals. In the range of radiation dose of 12.1-22.3 Gy/h, a significant predominance of females in the spawning shoal and a reduction in lifetime were also noted in fish.
