The purpose of this study was to investigate some aspects of the issue of teacher evaluation in the Greek educational space. In particular, we asked questions about the causes and effects of non-implementation as well as the conditions for implementing an evaluation system. The method followed was the literature review. The results of the review highlighted the reactions of teachers and the lack of political will towards the implementation of teacher evaluation as the main reasons for non-implementation. The long-term situation has led to a distance from the corresponding developments in other countries, while at home there is complacency for a portion of teachers, lack of motivation for others, as a result of which malfunctions at the expense of students are perpetuated. Finally, in our proposal for the introduction of systematic evaluation were formulated as basic conditions a) the existence of clearly defined criteria, based on scientific findings, b) the training of teachers, c) the provision of incentives and d) the cultivation of an evaluation culture.
