Abstract

Clonies in the early 19th century. During the regime, the people who migrated from South Asia as laborers and settled in this country are the plantation community.Within that community, plantation women are a group that makes a significant to the county’s economy.the aim of this research, which examines the social and economic problems faced by women plantation workers,is to gain an understanding of the social and economic problems faced by women plantation workers and their nature.Yatideriya watta in the upper newsmeyar grama sewa division of bulathkohupitiya divisional secretariat in the kegalle district was selected as the study area and 15 working women living there selected through random sampling methods.In-depeth interview and observation were the data collection methods.data was analysed through thematic analysis according to a qualitative research approach.women plantation workers were identified as the group most affected by the extreme poverty prevailing in the plantation community.they are deprived of basic needs,quality health services, freedom and leisure.diseases such as malnutrition were illnesses associated with their lives.the labour of the plantation women does not receive proper monetary valuation or value.their data revealed the inequality in pay for equal hours of work on gender difference. In some cases, women estate workers face challengers in securing land and property right.empirical data proved that a maturity of women are subjected two domestic violence on a daily basis.it was revealed that a majority of marriage women a blamed for the attacks.also in the plantation society, the right of women to make decision is very low compared to men.opportunities for independent for women in plantation household are very rare. In plantation community and Labour Union’s , pattern of limited representation women in decision making actions was also discernible.it can be concluded that the women plantation workers face the aforementioned socioeconomy problems, and these problems a difficult to eliminate through them, And it can be cancelled then sender in inequality acts as an invisible hand in the plantation society to cause and intensify these problems.
