This paper explores the right to information in Albania from legal, political, and social perspectives, highlighting its evolution, challenges, and recent developments. Particular emphasis is placed on the relationship between the right to information and the education sector, demonstrating how civic education and media literacy can empower individuals to exercise their rights and engage effectively in democratic processes. The analysis focuses on Law No. 119/2014 “On the Right to Information,” examining its amendments and alignment with international and EU standards. The paper assesses mechanisms for enhancing transparency and institutional accountability, while also exploring how integrating knowledge of this right into educational curricula can promote critical thinking and informed decision-making. Additionally, the study highlights the role of open access to information in supporting academic research and improving educational policies. The role of Information and Data Protection Commissioner is evaluated in terms of monitoring compliance, addressing complaints, and empowering citizens, including educators and students, to access public information. The conclusion offers insights into potential future developments aimed at strengthening the right to information in Albania and reinforcing its integration into the education system.
