The research aims to determine how metareflexives manifest the linguistic taste of speakers in contemporary Russian cynological discourse within the realm of jargon, as presented in online communication. The article characterizes active points of speech tension, marked by metalinguistic comments and statements, concerning the nomination of mixed-breed dogs; gender affiliation; dishonest breeders; and affective designations of dogs. The features of the types of linguistic personalities of the speakers in the studied discourse are highlighted and identified, which predetermine the actualization of metalinguistic consciousness in this area. The research is novel in that it is the first one to study the phenomenon of the process of metareflection in the sphere of jargon of contemporary Russian cynological discourse using Russian language material. In addition, active points of speech tension, marked by metareflexive statements and comments, have been identified and characterized; the components of the emotional and expressive style characteristic of the animal protection sub-discourse, which is included in the studied discourse in the sphere of jargon, are described. The study found that metareflexive statements and comments indicate dynamic processes occurring in society: the increasing role of dogs in the life of modern humans, the intensive anthropomorphic attribution of human qualities to pets, the expansion of the activities of dog producers, the increasing importance of purebred dogs in society, the emergence of the animal protection movement, and the linguistic fashion for affective nominations of dogs. It is determined that metareflexives show how differently the linguistic taste of speakers in contemporary Russian cynological discourse manifests itself, taking into account one or another type of linguistic personality, qualified by the level of command of speech culture and by the dominant function of thinking.
