The aim of the paper is to define further directions for the development and operation of this sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the process of analyzing the existing concept of the private security sector, current legal solutions and real needs. Limiting factors that are a consequence of outdated legal solutions that do not follow the real needs and demands of the market have been identified. Descriptive research has helped to obtain detailed and objective results on the development of the private security sector. It is estimated that the private sector in BiH employs around 5000-6000 workers, which is another reason indicating the need to research the directions for the development of private security. It is estimated that the private sector in B&H physically and technically, provides over 90% of private agencies, and has a significant share in the security of public interest enterprises
