The development of critical thinking and decision-making skills among secondary school students has become increasingly important in preparing them for academic success and real-world challenges. This article examines the role of meta-cognitive learning strategies in enhancing these essential cognitive abilities. Meta-cognition, defined as "thinking about thinking," encompasses students' awareness and understanding of their own thought processes, including planning, monitoring, and evaluating their learning strategies. Through a comprehensive review of current literature and empirical research, this study explores various meta-cognitive interventions and their effectiveness in promoting critical thinking and decision-making capabilities among adolescent learners. The research indicates that explicit instruction in meta-cognitive strategies, including self-questioning techniques, reflective journaling, and think-aloud protocols, significantly improves students' ability to analyze information critically, evaluate evidence, and make informed decisions. Furthermore, the integration of meta-cognitive approaches with traditional curriculum content enhances students' academic performance and transfer of learning to new situations. The findings suggest that educators should incorporate systematic meta-cognitive instruction into their teaching practices, providing students with tools for lifelong learning and autonomous thinking.
