The article is devoted to a scientific review of the history of folklore studies development at the G. Ibragimov Institute of Language, Literature and Art of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. The aim of the work is to determine the specifics of coordinating, academic, scientific, scientific and applied activities of the Institute for the study of folk art within the framework of a scientific discussion. The main focus is on the scientific activities of Tatar scholars who have made a huge contribution to the collection and research of folklore, the preparation of theory and methodology of its study. The scientific novelty of the article consists in a comprehensive analysis and systematization of the long-term activities of the School of Folklore Studies and History at the Institute covering the period from the Institute’s formation to the present. The article reveals the role and place of the School of Folklore Studies and History as an important scientific direction in the academic structure and in modern Russian science generally. As a result of the work, it was found that several generations of Tatar folklorists are now known in the Volga-Ural region of the Russian Federation for their fundamental scientific achievements. The results obtained allow us to identify the contribution of specific scholars and the research school as a whole to the development of science.
