Abstract

The state of Assam in India is ubiquitous of the periodic flood events that disrupts people's social and economic lives every year. Understanding the dynamics of recurrent flood events is helpful for risk reduction and mitigation. An effort has been made in this study to comprehend the Brahmaputra flooding by dividing the frequently flooded area into four separate Flood Plains (FPs), and by studying each region using multitemporal, multi sensor data from years 2016-2022. Each FP is studied for flood susceptibility using Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). A single flood plain has been chosen and mapped based on the susceptibility, number of flood hits and maximum flood depth. For the selected flood plain, the flood conditioning factors are closely studied.
