Significance A few Russian cyberattacks directed at Ukrainian satellite and mobile infrastructure have been disruptive, but many more have seemingly been thwarted. This indicates both that Russia’s cyber capabilities have diminished since 2017 and that western cyber defence initiatives are finally paying dividends. Impacts The success of Ukraine’s cyber defence will spur other countries -- especially in Eastern Europe -- to partner with NATO on cybersecurity. US involvement in international cybersecurity initiatives is likely to rise. Russia will continue to attempt to develop new cyber weapons to target Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and that of Kyiv’s allies.
