What's new?Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an established treatment method for patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis.Several access routes have been proposed: transaortic, transapical, transcarotid, subclavian, and the currently preferred and most widely used, transfemoral approach. While surgical cutdown was the preferred femoral access strategy in early clinical TAVI experience, recent trends favor percutaneous transfemoral approach (PTA) procedures using vascular closure devices. In this retrospective single-center study we present outcomes of 600 patients who underwent PTA TAVI and assess the impact of the learning curve on the outcomes of the procedures. Our results confirmed safety and feasibility of this method, as well as showed a significant reduction in the number of procedural complications with experience.
