The article examines the issue of national-patriotic upbringing of youth, the formation of national-patriotic and military-patriotic values of the younger generation throughout the entire period of development of human civilization from the ancient Greek philosophers to the classics of world pedagogy. The study of the history of foreign schools and pedagogy, as an important component of the general and pedagogical culture of the teacher and trainer, gives an idea of the main directions of training, upbringing and education of the young generation. The role of a specialist in the field of physical culture and sports in the social processes of globalization is especially important - the physical development of the younger generation, its preparation for the defense of the state. The purpose of the work is a historical analysis of the achievements of the national pedagogical heritage of the world and Ukrainian scientific community. Adhering to the principle of historicism, each stage of the evolution of human society is considered, in the context of the formation of a comprehensively harmoniously developed personality, through the prism of the works of representatives of the philosophical and pedagogical direction. It is proposed to understand the activities and works of outstanding philosophers, thinkers and teachers of various social and economic formations and their views on historical and pedagogical problems, especially on national-patriotic and military-patriotic upbringing and education of younger generations from ancient times to the present. Systematic purposeful work of future specialists in the field of physical education and sports on awareness of the world pedagogical heritage of the past will contribute to the expansion of the professional worldview of a physical culture teacher or sports coach, to form in them creative pedagogical thinking, the ability to creatively approach modern phenomena of social life.
