This article systematically investigates the empowering potential of artificial intelligence (AI)in the development of the Metaverse, as well as the challenges it faces. As the next-generation form of the internet that integrates the virtual and the real, the Metaverse is realizing content generation, interaction optimization, and scenario innovation through AI technologies. However, the rapid advancement of these technologies has also brought about systemic risks such as algorithmic bottlenecks, ethical dilemmas, data security issues, and copyright disputes. The article conducts an analysis from three dimensions: technological empowerment, risk governance, and humanistic balance, and proposes solutions including lightweight models, privacy protection technologies, global collaborative regulation, and the construction of an open-source ecosystem. The study posits that the collaborative development of AI and the Metaverse is not only the “dual engine” of a technological revolution but also a “stress test” for human civilization. Moving forward, there is a need to establish a tripartite framework integrating technology, governance, and humanism to transform the Metaverse from a technological utopia into a sustainable new paradigm of digital civilization. This article aims to provide a theoretical framework and practical pathways for building a sustainable digital civilization.
