Software Management Plans are to software what Data Management Plans are to datasets. SMPs help us describe the research software lifecycle in a lightweight, from an software empty repository to its publication. SMPs aim to raise awareness around good practices for research software development. In this 10-minute talk, we will get a quick overview on what SMPs are and how they can be supported by metadata, so they become machine-actionable SMPs. This talk was presented on 2025-11-20 as part of the webinar series "Fortaleciendo capacidades y fomentando colaboración" organized by La Referencia, the Research Software Alliance (ReSA) and Research Data Alliance (RDA).
