Abstract Purpose: This study aims to describe and analyze hospitalizations for prostate cancer in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) between January 2020 and November 2024, considering variables such as region of the country, age group, race/ethnicity, and nature of hospitalization. Additionally, it seeks to identify epidemiological patterns, provide support for public policies, and contribute to the optimization of healthcare for the male population in Brazil. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective, and quantitative study on prostate cancer hospitalizations in the Brazilian Health System (SUS) between January 2020 and November 2024. Data were obtained from the Department of Information and Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), selecting the following variables: region of the country, age group, race, and nature of the hospitalization. Results: The total number of hospitalizations due to prostate cancer during the analyzed period was 173, 005, with 22. 44% occurring in 2023 and 21. 28% in 2024. The region with the highest number of hospitalized patients during the period was the Southeast region (49. 52%), followed by the Northeast region (26. 27%). The most affected age group was 60–69 years (37. 43%), followed by 70–79 years (34. 83%) and 80 years or older (13. 96%). The most affected races/ethnicities were brown (45. 31%) and white (36. 39%). Of the total number of hospitalized patients during this period, 56. 98% were admitted as emergency cases, and 43. 01% as elective hospitalizations. Conclusion: The results show that most hospitalizations for prostate cancer in SUS occurred in the Southeast region, followed by the Northeast region, reflecting population distribution and access to healthcare services. The most affected age group was 60 to 79 years, indicating greater vulnerability in this population. The predominance of self-identified brown and white patients suggests possible racial disparities in access to diagnosis and treatment. The high proportion of emergency hospitalizations compared to elective ones highlights the need for strategies aimed at early diagnosis and continuous monitoring to reduce complications and emergency admissions. These findings reinforce the importance of public policies focused on prevention, screening, and timely treatment of prostate cancer in Brazil.
