The contemporary international system is undergoing a profound transformation marked by the gradual decline of a unipolar order and the steady emergence of a multipolar world. Within this evolving global landscape, developing and emerging economies are increasingly asserting themselves as key drivers of growth and global governance. The BRICS grouping—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—embodies this shift by representing both rising economic power and expanding political influence. This study examines the significance of BRICS in shaping the changing world order, focusing on its collective potential to challenge traditional Western dominance and contribute to more inclusive global governance structures. It explores how the economic strength, demographic weight, and strategic cooperation among BRICS members enhance their capacity to influence global institutions, promote South–South cooperation, and advocate reforms in international financial and political systems. The paper further analyzes the internal and external challenges confronting BRICS, including divergent national interests, geopolitical tensions, and global economic uncertainties, which may affect its coherence and effectiveness. By assessing BRICS’ evolving role in global affairs, the study highlights the group’s prospects as a transformative force in fostering a more balanced, representative, and multipolar international order.
