Abstract- Thin White Topping (TWT) has emerged as a durable and cost-effective rehabilitation technique forflexible pavements, particularly in rural road networks under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana(PMGSY). One of the critical aspects affecting the performance and longevity of TWT is the design andplacement of joints. Properly designed joints help in controlling cracks, reducing maintenance costs, andenhancing pavement life. This paper focuses on the importance of joints in TWT, their types, spacing, andconstruction methodologies, with a particular emphasis on PMGSY roads. The study also highlights case studies where appropriate joint design has improved pavement performance, thus ensuring sustainability and cost-effectiveness in rural road development.
