This deliverable focuses on the design and manufacturing of a battery module based on ADVAGEN developed cells and aims to prove that the upgrades in the cell can be scaled to the module level. The designed module will be 16S (51V), to cover a single unit from the electronics point of view (module). Battery module requirements will be defined by IKE, in collaboration with ABEE and FEV. Cell design and validation information (cell characteristics as Open circuit potential – OCP –, nominal capacity, internal resistance...) will be critical for the module design phase. The necessary mechanical and electrical calculations will be performed, and different design approaches will be explored, focusing on safety, manufacturing, energy density and cost. Special care will be given to cell integration, thermal management and mechanical pressure system, and the necessary structural assessment will be held for those purposes. Monitoring sensors and actuators, safety and control elements will be preliminary listed and the BMS electronic board selected. The safety-related electrical components will also be selected (e.g., power connectors, main and pre-charge contactors, current sensor, galvanic isolation monitoring, DC fuse, service disconnect…). Both mechanical and electrical designs will be the output of this deliverable.
