The purpose of this study is to conceptualize Individual Mindfulness in Organizations (IMO) and develop a scale to measure it. In this study, individual mindfulness in organizations refers to a meta-attention and meta-awareness of one’s entire attentional and awareness processes while performing work, which cultivates a coordinated and wise work attitude through it. The results indicated that IMO comprises two factors: Awake Work Attention (AWA) and Wise Work Attitude (WWA). The 12-item measurement scale demonstrated strong validity and reliability, confirming convergent and discriminant validity between the factors. IMO was also shown to be distinct from related constructs such as the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) and the Cognitive and Affective Mindfulness Scale-Revised (CAMS-R). Furthermore, IMO negatively influenced turnover intention through the mediating role of job engagement. By focusing on mindfulness as a bare meta-awareness process within the workplace, this study contributes to a clearer understanding and application of mindfulness in organizational research and practice.
