Abstract

Emergency care units (ECUs) play a critical role in managing patients with acute medical conditions in Senegal. A Bayesian hierarchical model was developed to analyse patient data collected from multiple ECU sites across Senegal, accounting for both site-specific variability and overall system performance. The model revealed significant differences in patient recovery rates between urban and rural ECUs (direction: higher rates observed in urban centers). This study provides a robust framework to assess and enhance emergency care systems in Senegal, facilitating evidence-based policy recommendations. Implementing the proposed Bayesian model can lead to more targeted interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes across different ECU settings.
