• SPI-8 is a complete measure of spirituality excluding religious affiliations • SPI-8 is a measure specifically adapted to the secular French population • SPI-8 can be used throughout life, no matter how old people are • SPI-8 is a comprehensive, validated, short, and easy-to-administer scale The present study aimed to construct and validate a concise spirituality scale (SPI-8) that captures key dimensions of spirituality (meaning, transcendence, connectedness) on a French population while excluding religious connotations. The research was conducted in three phases: an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to determine the scale structure, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to verify its validity, and a test-retest reliability assessment. Those three studies were conducted in a French population. Results indicate that SPI-8 is a unidimensional measure with good psychometric properties, including internal consistency, construct validity, and temporal stability. The scale correlates positively with well-being and spirituality and negatively with anxiety and depression. SPI-8 was found to be a valuable tool for assessing spirituality in secular populations. Further research should explore its cross-cultural applicability and its potential role in psychological health interventions.
