Nairobi’s transport system puts constant strain on the larger Nairobi Metropolitan Region (NMR), leading to more traffic, longer travel times, and an increase in traffic accidents. Kenya Vision 2030 calls for the construction of nine mass rapid transit system (MRTS) corridors in the NMR to provide sustainable transport. The internal rate of return and sensitivity study are used to assess the economic viability of these corridors using the cost‐benefit analysis (CBA) framework. The suggested MRTS corridors in the NMR are economically viable during the assessment stage. This paper offers a framework for evaluating the viability of mass rapid transit systems.
