Industry 4.0 has been changing shopfloor management through technologies for digital surveillance and automated production. Available academic research highlights different technologies and applications, but so far, no comprehensive review outlining development requirements has been published. The study fills this research gap by systematising Industry 4.0 shopfloor technologies and their opportunities and challenges in a four-sector matrix. The study calls for further research on the machine-to-machine interface in cross-departmental applications.
