Decreasing of tax revenue coinciding the population decrease, it is one of the crucial issues for Japanese municipalities to reduce public facilities. The purpose of this study is to clarify the implementation status of municipalities nationwide in reducing the number of public facilities up to 2024, and to discuss the factors that influence their progress. Using open data, questionnaire and interview surveys were conducted on some municipalities. The results revealed that approximately 75% of municipalities have not been able to reduce public facilities and we discuss on the two main factors.
