Assessment of the potential for the proposed development to disturb below-ground archaeological remains There is a notable lack of evidence for archaeological remains in the immediate vicinity of the site. It is located on the periphery of the historic town of Tamworth which was centred north of the confluence of the rivers Tame and Anker, whereas the development area is located to the south. There is no evidence for any buildings or other structures on the site from the 1810 map of Tamworth to the present day Ordnance Survey mapping. The land is a floodplain and is marked as marshland on 19th century Ordnance Survey mapping. It is therefore considered to have been unsuitable for settlement or agriculture. The possible impact of the proposed development on the archaeological record is therefore considered to be low.
