This article is devoted to determining the possibilities of using such means of non-verbal communication as emoji for developing emotional intelligence within the framework of specialized language disciplines of a pedagogical university. The characteristics of the development of pedagogical science in this area at the present stage of development are given. The purpose of the article is to determine the didactic potential of emoji used to develop emotional intelligence of students-future foreign language teachers. The relevance of the work is due to the lack of systematic studies of the development of emotional intelligence by means of emoji. Using the example of students of the Voronezh State Pedagogical University, the essence of work on the development of emotional intelligence is revealed. The typology of exercises aimed at developing emotional intelligence is described. The most effective are exercises on working with the vocabulary of emotions, exercises on working with thematic idioms, exercises in the format of chat correspondence, exercises on interpretation and commenting on problem situations. The tasks, presented for completion by students-future foreign language teachers within the framework of specialized language disciplines, are aimed at the formation of language skills and speech abilities. Tasks of this kind are aimed at developing empathy, the skills of analysis and self-analysis, as well as understanding and accepting the feelings of others.
