This preprint presents a transparent workflow designed to bridge ERA5 atmospheric reanalysis datasets and regulatory air dispersion modelling systems such as AERMOD and CALPUFF. The proposed methodology focuses on the transformation of ERA5 meteorological data into structured time series compatible with regulatory meteorological preprocessors including AERMET and CALMET. The workflow is implemented through the WindRose toolkit, a lightweight software environment that enables ingestion, inspection and processing of ERA5 GRIB datasets. The paper illustrates the complete workflow through an application example involving the mechanical-biological treatment facility located in Battipaglia (Southern Italy), demonstrating the full sequence from ERA5 dataset request planning to the generation of regulatory-ready meteorological inputs. This work contributes to bridging the operational gap between global atmospheric reanalysis datasets and regulatory air-quality modelling workflows.
