Abstract: Based on their lived experiences as scholars and mothers, interviewing female academics, and researching published literature, the coauthors assert that women are marginalized in academia, even more so when they become mothers, and to an even greater extent in the field of performing arts. This article brings awareness to the discrimination against mothers in performing arts academia so as to create more diverse and inclusive educational institutions. As mothers working in performing arts academia, the coauthors dispel the myth that scholars cannot be mothers and provide encouragement to women who feel pressured to choose between their career or their children.
