Structures of six new ionic compounds featuring diprotonated 1, 2-bis (pyridyl) ethane and 1, 2-bis (pyridyl) ethylene cations and Br–, Br3–, Cl–, ICl₂^- counterions have been established for the first time by X-ray diffraction structural analysis. Quantum chemical computations were employed to study intermolecular interactions in the compounds.
