The Western Ghats of Peninsular India are recognized globally as the eighth hottest biodiversity hotspot. However, studies on moss diversity in this region are still at an early stage. Addressing this gap, a field survey was conducted during the post-monsoon season of 2024 in Eravikulam National Park, Kerala, part of the Western Ghats. Specimens collected through random sampling were identified using authentic literature on mosses. Dicranum scoparium Hedw., a moss species with a wide global distribution, was recorded. In India, this species has so far been reported only from the Indian Himalayan region, specifically Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Mizoram, and Sikkim. This finding represents a new addition to the bryoflora of Peninsular India and the Western Ghats. A brief taxonomic description of the species, along with a photographic plate, is provided.
