Why does social isolation cause suffering even when survival needs are met? We propose that communication need arises from memetic replication pressure (Rₑxpr) — the drive of acquired memes to replicate through expression — rather than from information-seeking drives alone. Using asymmetric channel blocking in a multi-agent computational model, we show that reception without expression is indistinguishable from complete isolation (p = 0. 64, N = 79), while expression even into void provides relief. A human validation protocol (N = 24) is proposed.
